Description

Dobros are typically made from laminate woods, so we jumped at the chance to represent this gorgeous 2015 Tom Warner Appalachian Resophonic built from all solid myrtlewood. With a rich, bass-heavy sound not unlike rosewood, myrtlewood is one of the best tonewoods out there not in regular use by manufacturers, and it adds a lot of extra warmth and depth to this already excellent resophonic guitar. But it just gets better from there - a Paul Beard Legend cone built from triple-spun aluminum sits below a spider bridge for an extremely nuanced sound that's not just bright and loud but has the character and mellow top-end that make Beard's hand-spun cones so sought-after. All of Tom Warner's dobros were hand-built and largely custom shop pieces, so this instrument is certifiably one of a kind with a big, unique sound that will leap out of the mix in a bluegrass band. Half-herringbone purfling and a very light nitrocellulose finish complete the package visually to help this dobro stand out onstage.

Playing wear is minimal, as the cone has not even required cleaning, let alone replacement. The instrument shows some mild signs of dryness, particularly on the back and sides, including a center-seam finish crack, which does not go through to the wood. The dryness does not affect the durability, sound, or playability of the instrument, and as our store is humidified, dryness should not pose any future issues for the instrument provided it's cared for properly by its next owner. We consider it to be in very good condition. Included in the price is the TKL hard-shell case which was included with the dobro at the time of its initial purchase from the builder, which the owner has augmented with a few stickers (including a Denver Folklore Center sticker, which you would be a fool to remove).
