Description
Bill Rickard excels at making tremendously balanced banjos perfect for the serious clawhammer player, and this Maple Dobson 11" is no exception. While the naturally bright and percussive tone of the tone woods forms the core of this instrument's voice, Mr Rickard's exceptionally well-milled necks add oomph and low end, and its brass Dobson-style tone ring helps to add complexity and character to what's an already premium instrument. Classy, old-school craftsmanship is the name of the game on all of Rickard's instruments, and while the Maple Dobson may not wow you with over-the-top abalone inlays or a glossy finish, it doesn't need to. Antiqued brass hardware (including Cyclone 10:1 planetary tuners), EVO gold frets, and an even and smooth varnish finish combine form with function and ensure that pickers who know what they're looking at will find it far more alluring than a flashier one. Included in the price is a Superior hard shell case.
