Description

Bluegrass pickers haven't been able to keep themselves from falling in love with this 2004 Ome Sweetgrass, one of the more premium resonator options from Ome's Colorado era. With a select curly maple neck, pot, and resonator, the Sweetgrass doesn't try to rewrite the book on Scruggs-style five-strings, but its Megatone 200 tone ring contrasts dramatically when compared to Gibson's Mastertone-outfitted models, with a rounder and sweeter tone and less in the way of ultra-bright twang. Cosmetic appointments are top-flight, with a gorgeous amber sunburst gloss finish, ivoroid binding, and extensive inlay work in both abalone and mother-of-pearl including a modern reimagining of a torch inlay on the headstock. It also comes outfitted with Keith tuners, allowing the 2nd and 3rd strings to be dropped in pitch for dramatic effect as heard in bluegrass classics like "Flint Hill Special". This is a gig-ready three-finger machine that won't be on our sales floor for long.

This instrument arrived in our store in very good condition, with very little in the way of cosmetic wear to separate it from even a brand-new resonator. Some aftermarket alterations have been made, including the installation of railroad spikes at the seventh and ninth frets, and a non-original, non-compensated maple bridge (the original is included with the banjo in its case). It has recently seen an intensive set up with a full professional fret dress and level, and plays very well in all positions. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
