Description

Northfield set some sky-high expectations when they nicknamed their NFB-F5E model the "Big Mon" after the father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe - but we feel that even the most discerning picker will walk away impressed from these incredible and responsive instruments. This lightly used Big Mon from 2019 has all the punch and growl one could want from an F-style mandolin, and has begun to break in to become the calibre of instrument that Northfield's expert luthiers knew it was destined to be. The NFB-F5E's distinctive sound comes by way of premium Engelmann spruce and figured maple, but also thanks to its unique shape, which sees it measure just 5mm wider than Northfield's other models. While it's hard to quantify how much difference that slightly larger body makes, just about every mandolinist agrees that there's something different about the Big Mon from the moment they pick it up.

This instrument arrived in our store already in excellent condition, with almost no cosmetic wear to speak of at all. The set up is very comfortable, and the instrument plays well with a responsive and full tone in all positions up and down the neck. Included in the price is the original Airloom Recurve hard-shell case.
