Description

If you think Martin and Gibson have the vintage dreadnaught market cornered, we'd recommend you give this thunderous 1975 Guild D-50 a whirl, which stands toe-to-toe with some of the best flatpicking guitars of the 1970s that we've ever heard. With a Sitka spruce top and an Indian rosewood back and sides, it's not hard to tell which iconic guitars the D-50 was designed to compete with, and just like its Nazareth-made rivals, it boasts powerful lows, clear highs, and all the volume you could ever want out of a guitar for bluegrass, country, acoustic rock, or anything else you put it to the test with. While Guild erred towards the more minimal with their visual appointments, a handful of classic, vintage touches set this one apart, like the jumbo-sized original pickguard and the colossal pearloid headstock inlay.

This guitar arrived in our store in very good condition and has seen a below-average amount of playing wear over the last 50 years. There is a typical to below-typical amount of pick marks and scuffs in the top, with the most pronounced being one long scuff along the very bottom of the lower bout. The back, sides, and neck are similar, with overall wear consistent with regular but not reckless use. An impact dent on the bottom of the lower bout on the back's treble side has resulted in some minor finish delamination and discoloring. All hardware is original, but the bridge appears to have been shaved down slightly at an indeterminate point in the past. The saddle and bridge pins are newer plastic replacements, but the nut appears to be original. We've recently given this instrument a full set up including a professional fret dress, level, and crown, and find it to play very well in all positions. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
