The mandola has been a popular instrument in both traditional as well as crossover Celtic music for decades now, and is typically used to fill in the space between the bouzouki and the fiddle. The mandola is tuned a fifth lower than a mandolin (i.e., C, G, D, A), but the intervals are the same, which means a capable mandolin player can pick up the mandola and start ripping away. The instrument also supports a number of alternate tunings, for a fuller, warmer sound that sits more pleasantly against guitars in DADGAD. This mandola from Gold Tone is the only one we regularly stock - a lovely instrument with a solid spruce top and the classic rounded triangle soundhole for the fullness and sustain necessary for playing traditional Irish music. Its 17.06125" scale length makes it fairly playable for a mandolinist looking for an auxiliary instrument to fill out their sound. Finally, this mandola is priced with a Gold Tone gig bag, for protection when carrying it between your home and the gig, jam, or rehearsal.
