Description
Gibson's RB-250 became perhaps the workhorse five-string of the 70s newgrass and festival circuit, and after picking out a tune on one, it's not hard to understand why. Dating from roughly 1971, this no-frills resonator has a big, bold sound that pushes punchy high mids right to the forefront with just the slightest provocation from the player's right hand. That impossible-to-replicate tone comes by way of a classic combination - the RB-250 features all-mahogany construction with a full one-piece flange and a Gibson Mastertone under the head. Cosmetics lean towards the understated, with classic inlay patterns and a lacquer finish that has broken in quite nicely. This would be a great option for any serious three-finger player who wants to take the next step in their career with a classic instrument in hand.
This banjo arrived in our store in very good condition, with a low, playable setup and a good neck angle accommodating to the dedicated Scruggs-style player. Some of the resonator binding has been reglued, and cosmetic wear is roughly in line with (if not slightly below) the average for a banjo now over 50 years old. All hardware is original. Included in the price is a non-original hard-shell case as well as a set of Keith tuners, which were included with the banjo when it arrived in our store but will require some maintenance before use.
