While the mandobanjo may not be a particularly common instrument anymore, as one of the most popular ideas to come out of the banjo-ification common during the Jazz Age, a decent amount of these great little instruments have survived and made it down to us. The Gibson MB-2 is one of the best of the bunch, and this one, dating from around 1926, has made for a fantastic addition to our store, thanks to both its rich and unique tone as well as its undeniable antique cool factor. The MB-2 changed significantly from year to year, but this one features a mahogany neck, pot, and resonator with a huge rolled brass tone ring to bolster its already formidable sound. Cosmetics tend towards the minimal, but the natural antique appeal of the instrument lends it an unmistakable class that can only be found in something vintage. We're looking forward to handing it off to its next owner.

This instrument features cosmetic wear well below the average for something nearing its centennial. Finish checking is very minor, and there are remarkably few dents or divots on the instrument, with most centering on the back of the resonator. The top half of the inlay is non-original, including the script logotype, and the armrest is likely non-original as well. The set up is very good, with a straight neck and low, playable action. We consider this instrument to be in excellent condition, considering its age. Included in the price is a chipboard case in fair condition, which is period-correct but likely not original.
