Description

While the ES-125 may not elicit the same levels of wide-eyed lust from jazz guitarists as some of Gibson's best-known vintage hollow-bodies, these gorgeous archtops still have a cool factor that makes it hard to pull away from once you've got it in your hands. This one, which dates from 1954, has a wonderful tone when amplified, thanks in no small part to its original dog-ear P90 in the neck, which can turn on a dime from warm and mellow moods well-suited for solo jazz to a Western swing snarl with just the slightest provocation from the player's right hand. The ES-125 combined a maple top and back with mahogany sides for an innovative mix of woods designed to balance the natural warmth of the large resonating chamber, and features an eye-catching sepia stain with cream binding for a distinctive visual calling card.

This instrument arrived in our store in very good condition, with a low, comfortable set up suited exceptionally well to jazz guitar. There is a below-typical amount of playing wear, but pick marks, dents, and divots are still present on all planes of the instrument, as is to be expected on a guitar of this age. The finish shows the classic Gibson chequing consistent with pieces of this era. There is no significant structural damage to the instrument anywhere, and all of the guitar's hardware is original. Included in the price is a non-original Guardian hard-shell case, which fits the instrument very well.
