Description

While boutique builders are not generally known for making signature series instruments, Collings shook up the industry with their Julian Lage-spec OM1, a versatile and impressive acoustic modeled after the guitarist's 1937 Martin 000-18. With the addition of an Adirondack top, this OM1 A JL nudges ever closer to a faithful reproduction of Lage's workhorse flat-top - and the addition of a sunburst finish adds a little flash to this already gorgeous instrument that we simply couldn't resist. This one, built in 2020, boasts a slightly warmer, more open tone than a brand new model, thanks to a few years of light playing in by its single owner. While it's tempting to imagine just what a fantastic instrument this OM1 A JL will be in 50 years, it already has a lot to offer right now, and would make for an incredible tool for the professional musician or the serious hobbyist who's not interested in playing anything but the best.

This instrument arrived in our store on the upper end of very good condition, with very light playing wear overall. The OM1 JL features a very light satin poly finish, and some nicks and dings are visible, primarily on the guitar's lower bout. A light amount of finish wear is also visible on the bass side of the lower bout from friction with a player's arm, indicating that this instrument will likely break in to a bit more of a semi-gloss over decades of playing time. Light scuffing on the pickguard is consistent with what might be expected on a guitar with under ten years of use, and does not significantly detract from the OM1's aesthetic appeal. The neck was refinished by Collings due to delamination issues within the last four years, and some light finish shrinkage is still visible where the fretboard extension reaches the top. Any photos of wear or cosmetic damage are available upon request; please contact us directly.

The guitar's set up is excellent, with low, playable, comfortable action, a straight neck, and no fret buzz whatsoever. The action is set to a low medium and can accommodate a wide range of playing styles and genres - this is a Julian Lage Signature, after all. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
