Description
We're still sad that esteemed banjo builder Bart Reiter has finally hung up the spurs after a nearly 40 year career, but the enduring impact of his neo-traditionalist approach to building open-backs lives on in the ones that make their way into our shop. This beautiful 1993 Grand Concert seems to set the stage for the modern sound achieved by the luthiers that have taken Bart's work as inspiration, even as it invokes the storied history of the instrument. The Grand Concert faithfully reproduces a Bacon Professional, down to the jumbo Bacon tone ring and internal resonator, but Reiter's unique approach to milling necks and a slightly thicker pot produce a more balanced sound with a richer low end than the original Bacon and Day interwar open-backs. Cosmetics are also true to the banjo's original inspiration, with a stunning flower pot inlay on the headstock and diamonds and a Vega-style star on the fingerboard. It's hard to imagine a better instrument for solo melodic clawhammer.
This instrument arrived in our store in excellent condition, with only the most minor of cosmetic wear and an excellent set up with comfortable action. All hardware and parts are original, although the head has been replaced with a Fiberskyn option. Included in the price is the original hardshell case.
