Description

The latest addition to our store from Denver-based mandolin luthier Mike Atkinson is a lovely two-point A-style, with a Sitka spruce top and figured black limba on the back, sides and neck. This is the first mandolin from Mr Atkinson that we've carried thus far that comes with a blacktop finish, lending it a too-cool-for-school visual flair that will ensure it stands out when you take it to a gig or a jam. Binding is a light-hued holly, and the brass-colored inlays and black tuning buttons make this hands down the best looking specimen we've gotten from Atkinson mandolins so far. Like all others, the headstock features a handsome hardwood inlay that seems to jump right out of a previous era. The tone is very throaty and woody, and errs a little closer towards the sound of a traditional F-style mandolin than most A-styles. As this is a one-of-a-kind, handmade instrument, it has all the character and quirks one expects from a one-of-a-kind instrument, rather than the glitz of a production-made model. Included in the price is a ProRockGear hard-shell case.
