Description

It seems like no matter how many we order, we can't keep Bill Rickard's banjos in stock - once a shipment makes its way into our store, they're all gone within just a few weeks. Happily for our customers, used options do turn up every now and then, including this nicely maintained 2012 Maple Ridge, one of our favorite models from Rickard. As the name suggests, the Maple Ridge features all Canadian big leaf maple construction, used in combination with a big brass Dobson tone ring for a warm, authentic tone perfectly suited for solo melodic clawhammer. Bill's perfectly milled neck heel ensures that this instrument is an absolute delight to play, with a contour that bolsters the instrument's naturally thumpy low end while also remaining comfortable and ergonomic to play. Appointments on the Maple Ridge tend to be fairly minimal, with a black varnish stain on the pot and aged brass hardware (including the Cyclone planetary tuners).

This instrument arrived in our store in very good condition. Overall playing wear is minor and is generally limited to a light tarnish on the hardware, with no notable dents or divots on the neck or headstock. Two parts are non-original - a compensated bridge of unknown provenance, and a non-original aged brass hawktail tailpiece, which appears to have been made by Pisgah but fits the overall style of the Maple Ridge very well. The set up and playability are excellent and well-suited to a wide variety of right-hand styles. Included in the price is a non-original Access soft-shell case.

*Please note, per our return policy, all sales on used and consignment instruments are final.*
