Description

While Pono no longer make their guitar-style octave mandolins, it's not for lack of demand - these fantastic little instruments were some of our favorite options for customers interested in a totally new sound from mandolin family instruments. Built with all solid woods and designed by notable luthier Kilin Reece, these excellent eight-strings proved just how versatile the octave mandolin can be as an instrument. This one, a 2018 MND-20HC, was one of Pono's most compact models, with a 21.5" scale length and a smooth Venetian cutaway allowing for easy access to the upper frets. An Engelmann spruce top pairs with a mahogany back and sides for a punchy and bright sound with a strong fundamental and plenty of warmth.

This instrument shows very little in the way of playing wear, with next to nothing in the way of picking marks or scuffs that would separate it visually from a new instrument. The owner had two black strap buttons installed aftermarket, to make performing with this instrument while standing easier. The set up is very good, with low, playable action in all positions. We consider it to be in excellent condition. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
