Description

Martin's 12-string guitars have remained a key part of their lineup into the modern era, but the instrument's heyday was undoubtedly during the 1970s - which makes this 1970 D12-20 not just a great instrument, but a bit of music history, too. Replete with the big, bold sound that's made the Nazareth manufacturer the go-to option for countless pickers over nearly 200 years of guitar building, the D12-20 strikes a great balance between quality and affordability that will undoubtedly entice anyone who picks it up. The 20 Series was largely similar to the company's far more famous 18 Series, and as such, this instrument features a Sitka spruce top with a genuine mahogany neck, back, and sides for a powerful and lively sound that leaps right off the fingerboard. Over 50 years of playing-in have also served to open up the tonewoods nicely; this thing can really roar when you dig your right hand in.

Overall, we consider this instrument to be in very good condition considering its age. Playing wear is somewhere between below average and average, with about an equal amount on both the top and back, visible primarily under oblique lighting. Most of the more noticeable dents are in the top and center on the lower bout. Significantly, however, there is no structural damage to the instrument at all, and no indications of significant repairwork or alteration. Other than the bridge pins, all the parts are original and in good, working mechanical condition. There is moderate relief in the neck, and as is normal on any guitar of this age, the originally glossy finish has broken in to more of a matte. It's currently set up at a medium height for open-position cowboy chord strumming. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
