Martin D-35 (1974)

Description

Here at the Denver Folklore Center, we feel that there are few things better than a vintage Martin guitar, and we jump at every opportunity to get one in our store. This 1974 D-35 is one of our favorite recent additions, and it's quickly become a customer favorite, too. It's hard not to be taken with this big, bassy dreadnaught, which has nicely broken in and opened up over nearly 50 years of play. The D-35 combines a Sitka spruce top with rosewood back and sides, for a classic sound perfect for bluegrass leads and rhythm playing, or anywhere else your music takes you. The natural characteristics of the tonewoods have only gotten richer with age, making this a great guitar for recording applications as well.

This instrument has come to us in very good condition, with no visible evidence of repairs and an excellent set up with medium-to-low action. There are no cracks anywhere on the guitar's body, and the neck is straight. The top does show the typical scuffs and scratches that are inevitable on an instrument of this age, and there is a typical to below-typical amount of finish checking, consistent with most vintage guitars. The top has become more amber in color over time, and the gloss finish has broken in nicely to more of a matte. The pickguard is non-original, but looks to have been replaced just after the guitar was purchased new, and the nut is non-original as well. This D-35 parted ways with its case at some point over its lifetime, and is instead paired with a non-original hard-shell case which fits it very well.
