Description
While it may be hard to improve on a guitar as storied as Martin's 000-18, this custom shop redesign certainly makes a compelling argument to the contrary. Dating from 2009, the 000C-18 Custom sports a beautiful Venetian cutaway and a slim neck profile, making it just about the most comfortable mid-sized guitar you'll ever get your hands on. But it's not just the playability that's been improved - this guitar also features an Adirondack top with scalloped Golden Age Adirondack bracing, too, for a remarkably versatile sound that can be intimate and mellow by one measure or bold and present by the next. Small aesthetic appointments add more modern touches to the guitar throughout, including the ebony inlay at the bottom of the lower bout, the Old Style 18 rosette, and a completely unadorned fingerboard, which extends to the top of the soundhole and matches its contour. Most of the custom appointments highlight the guitar's sheer black components, and additional customisations include black tuning buttons, black binding, and an ebony headstock overlay. The headstock also features a silver foil Martin logotype.
This guitar arrived in our store in very good condition, with relative little in the way of playing wear, especially considering its age. Most scuffing centers on the back and the headstock, with a small amount on the top. Several aftermarket alterations have been made, including the addition of a non-original black, parlor-style pickguard, and a black strap button at the neck heel. The endpin is non-original, suggesting that this guitar had an aftermarket pickup installed at some point which has since been removed. The set up is excellent, with low and very playable action throughout. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
