Description

The Gibson J-50 has been a classic design since its inception for good reason, and this 1964 J-50 ADJ that found its way into our store is no exception. Avid Gibson aficionados will find the same colossal sound, balanced frequency response, and exceptional playability that they know and love from the J-50, but in a guitar that has already had the better part of a century to open up. The mahogany on the back and sides has gradually achieved a brightness reminiscent of rosewood, but retains the immediacy that makes mahogany sonically unique, and the Sitka spruce has only developed more cut and volume over time. Appointments are fairly minimal, as is typical of the J-50, but the classic Gibson tortoise pickguard remains as eye-catching as it's ever been. This guitar is in particularly good condition for an instrument of its age, with no major repairs, and some subtle crazing in the finish. There are a number of small scuffs and scratches on all faces of the instrument, and several divots above the pickguard, but below the typical amount one would find on a guitar approaching 60 years of age. A strap button has been installed on the heel, but otherwise no modifications have been made to the instrument - the original adjustable bridge, and the original plastic nut and saddle are both here. The guitar comes with its original hardshell case.
