When Gibson reintroduced the Model 27 after buying the rights to the Dobro name in 1993, they had big expectations to fill. During their pre-war heyday, Dobro's Model 27 was their most popular instrument, and its clear, warm tone influenced the style and technique of countless square-neck pickers who learned to play with them. Gibson's reinterpretation of the model imbued it with some extra sonic roundedness and a bit more midrange, but didn't detract from what made these resonators special, and they also introduced a Deluxe model, like this one, from 2001. With sunburst-finished curly maple veneers on the top, back, and sides, the Deluxe leaps out at the player visually as well as sonically, and distinctive touches like the fretboard inlays and poinsettia coverplate add a little class as well. All in all, it's a great sounding, great playing Dobro from one of the company's best eras.
This instrument appears to have been very lightly played over the last 20 years, with a nearly imperceptible amount of wear on the top, back, sides, and coverplate. There is a small amount of finish delamination on the headstock (see photos). All parts appear to be original. We consider it to be in excellent condition, and it's set up perfectly, as well. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
