Countless new sounds are just waiting to be uncovered in Gold Tone's Dojo DLX, an oddball mix of a resonator guitar and a banjo designed for musicians not interested in conflating the word "acoustic" with the word "traditional". This 2010 model, from near the start of the instrument's production run, errs incredibly close to a new one and represents a solid value to the cost-conscious musician who wants new sounds and new toys, but isn't interested in paying full retail price. The Dojo DLX combines an all-laminate maple body for a bright, dry, and snappy tone borrowed from the world of the resonator guitar, and then bolsters it with a full-sized aluminum cone and a solid maple neck to add in a bit of bite. Plugged in, the Dojo really roars - a stacked humbucking neck pickup allows this instrument to get down and dirty when you crank it through a small amplifier for blues tones with a twist. Cosmetically, the instrument features a full gloss, dark amber burst in combination with extensive abalone purfling, an eye-catching filigreed F-hole, and cream binding for a look that combines the new with the old. It's a highly unique instrument and a lot of fun to tool around on for players of all types.
This instrument arrived in our store in very good condition, with about a typical to below-typical amount of cosmetic wear for one with fifteen years of playing time. Most wear is limited to light tarnish on the coverplate and moderate scuffing on the guitar's top as is consistent with regular play. The electronics are in good working condition, and all of the instrument's parts are original. The set up is excellent, with low, highly playable action in all positions on the neck and no fret buzz. Included in the price is the original Gold Tone hard-shell case.
