Description

While it may have been one of the most basic and budget friendly options in Bruce Weber's production line, the Hyalite's mellow, woodsy tone and understated aesthetics have long made it a favorite option for Celtic mandolinists interested in tones and timbres outside of the world of bluegrass and Americana. A great deal of that has to do with the instrument's mahogany neck, back and sides, for a tone with more high mids and even-numbered overtones than the naturally snappy and fundamental-heavy sound of maple. The mahogany is given an extra kick in volume via a thick Sitka spruce top, and is finished in a hand-rubbed matte to help promote sustain and richness, especially from the open strings. This 2004 model has opened up nicely and is ready to play its next tune in the hands of a new player looking for a workmanlike but still immaculately built A-style.

This instrument arrived in our store in excellent condition relative to its age, with light playing wear and no structural damage whatsoever. The only visible wear is light scuffing on the top from pick and fingernails, which is only clearly visible under oblique lighting and does not significantly detract from the visual beauty of the mandolin. The top is in good condition and shows no signs of warping or sinking. There are no cracks anywhere on the instrument, and the neck is straight and playable, with a good setup throughout. All parts are original, including the compensated ebony Brekke bridge. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
