While we take pride in all the mandolins in our inventory, it has to be said that this 2020 Red Diamond Vintage 2-Point is truly one of the most exceptional eight-strings we've ever had the privilege of selling. Custom-built with all Appalachian woods by master luthier Don MacRostle, this stunning instrument is truly the complete package, with a magnificent sound, beautiful appointments, and incredible playability. Torrefied West Virginia spruce blends perfectly with the highly figured red maple used for the back, sides, and neck, for a vintage-inspired voice that responds effortlessly to the player's touch. The fingerboard features a compound, conical radius that becomes less pronounced up the neck, and frets have been placed according to Gary Magliari's specifications for flawless intonation in all positions on all courses. Additionally, the aesthetic appointments are truly remarkable, especially the high voltage arcing on the back, done in collaboration between Mr MacRostle and Ohio-based woodworker Kevin Smyth.
This mandolin is in very good condition, with a small amount of wear on the binding that is visible only when examined closely. The set up is excellent, with comfortable action in all positions. Collectors may note that this is one of only four 2-points that Mr MacRostle has made, and one of only of two that feature arcing on the back. Included in the price is the original Bobelock hybrid-style case.
