Krishot F5 (1999)

Description

For nearly 40 years, Czechia's Eduard Krištufek has been making some of the best bluegrass mandolins in Europe under the name Krishot, building a dedicated following of traditional pickers worldwide and a reputation as one of the most trusted names in the business. This relatively early example, dating from 1999, already shows Krištufek's incredible skill at building Loar-spec F-styles, and nearly 30 years of playing in has turned it into an impressively rich-sounding instrument with a bright, lively treble response that can cut through a stringband like a hot knife through pomazánkové. Beautifully finished in a sunburst varnish with ivoroid binding and an ornate flowerpot inlay on the headstock, this is a premium instrument that will make for a fantastic tool in the hands of a serious player looking for a next-step instrument.

This instrument arrived in our store in very good condition, with cosmetic wear well below the norm for an instrument fast approaching its 30th birthday. Scuffing is relatively light and largely uniform, with a slightly higher amount on the top from fingernails and flatpicks. The set up is very good, with altogether low, comfortable action that encourages the player to reach up the neck for higher and higher voicings, and the fingerboard is straight and totally without fret buzz. All parts appear to be original, although the tailpieces used by Krištufek at this time varied from instrument to instrument and therefore can't be definitely confirmed as either an original or as a replacement. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
