Description
F-style does not necessarily have to mean bluegrass chop, as evidenced by this splendid Eastman MD-314. With an oval hole rather than the standard array of violin-style F and G holes, this plucky little eight-string fills out frequencies you may not used to be used to hearing out of a mandolin, with rich lows and low mids that dovetail nicely with a long, full sustain. It's a tremendous instrument for anyone interested in Americana or Celtic music - or really anything that doesn't require the snare-like percussive snap of traditional bluegrass mandolin playing. Eastman cast this one in a satin Classic sepia finish, to help it look the part, too. Included in the price is an Eastman soft-shell case.
