Description

Max Girouard has been building lovely mandolins by hand out of his Glocester, Rhode Island shop for over 15 years at this point, and each one is a unique and truly beautiful instrument. All his mandolins are to some extent custom shop instruments, but this lovely A-style from 2018, nicknamed the "Dragon" for obvious reasons, is truly one-of-a-kind. Girouard mandolins are known for having a pristine and balanced sound with an unusually detailed high register and a wonderful lushness that make them especially well-suited to solo music, and the Dragon is a wonderful example of all those sonic signatures. It boasts richness and tonal depth that rival a high-end oval hole mandolin - this is not a bluegrass mandolin. And it's tough to beat the sleek black finish, from underneath which some dazzling quilted maple pokes out on the mandolin's back. Above all, the most eye-catching are the dragon inlays in mother of pearl on the headstock, as well as in the ebony pickguard.

This instrument is in very good condition, with little in the way of playwear. There are finish cracks on either side of the fretboard right near the neck joint, but nothing that goes through to the wood underneath. Scuffs and scratches are almost non-existent, and the set-up is excellent. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
