Description
Martin's HD-28 has long been one of the company's most beloved models, with a storied past and countless uses in recorded acoustic music that's allowed it to grow wings into an iconic guitar in its own right aside from its better known brother, the D-28. This 2021 model provides players with a fantastic deal - a big discount off of the guitar's list price, and a couple years of light playing time that's helped open up the tonewoods and get this guitar sounding even better than a brand new one. With scalloped, forward-shifted X-bracing, the HD-28 boasts better low end and a longer sustain time than the D-28, making it particularly well suited as a rhythm guitar in a stringband, as well as the ideal axe for any picker who wants a six-string that can really roar. The Sitka spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides pose a formidable, classic combination beloved by guitarists the world over, and traditional visual appointments let everyone know you didn't settle for anything less than a Martin.
This guitar arrived in our store in very good condition, with relatively minor playing wear to separate it from a brand new instrument. While the majority of HD-28s of this era shipped with Schaller GrandTune open-gear tuners, this one sports Grover nickel open-back, which were easier for Martin to source during the pandemic and were used on many HD-28s in 2020 and 2021. There is moderate relief in the neck, and the set up is currently geared towards bluegrass flatpickers, with no fret buzz anywhere on the neck and a nice, open sound. Aftermarket alterations include a smoked nickel strap button on the underside of the neck heel, and a K&K Pure Mini passive piezo pickup system. The original endpin is not included. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
