Description
For volume, low end, and carrying power, it's hard to top the Martin D-35, and a vintage one, like this beautiful example from 1975, are even better. With a Sitka spruce top and a three-piece Indian rosewood back, the model has remained a mainstay from Martin since it's inception, renowned by country strummers, bluegrass flatpickers, acoustic rockers, and anyone in between. Over its years of use, this particular D-35 has opened up very nicely, still boasting a surprising amount of crispness in the high register, but with the unmistakable thunder of a vintage rosewood dreadnaught. As with most Martin Standard Series guitars, appointments are modest and allow the sound do the talking. But make no mistake, this D-35 is a beauty - just strum it and see.
This guitar has undergone a fair amount of repair recently, the most significant of which is a bridge replacement. Multiple cracks on the back have been repaired and cleated to prevent reopening, and should stay closed assuming the guitar is properly cared for by its next owner. There is relatively extensive finish checking on the guitar's top, and there is a higher than normal amount of picking wear and scuffing as well. The scratches and dents on the back are fairly typical for a guitar of this age, and neck wear is about typical as well. The guitar has been freshly set up and playability is very good, with action conducive to many different styles of music. Despite the history of repairs, this guitar plays very nicely and is fairly stable. We consider it to be in good condition. Included in the price is a non-original hard-shell case by Golden Gate.
