Description

Martin's Authentic Series have already established quite a following in just ten years, and with just cause - these ultra-premium versions of the Pennsylvania-based manufacturer's most beloved guitars up the ante with premium components and a retro feel, but without changing what players love about these iconic platforms. This gorgeous D-28 Authentic 1937 from 2014 stands out as an example of what makes Martin still the first and last name in the world of the spruce and rosewood dreadnaught, and we have it priced well below Martin's list for the current version of the D-28 Authentic. Tonewoods are upgraded from Sitka spruce to torrefied Adirondack, and from Indian rosewood to Madagascar, and bracing is hand-scalloped (making this technically more of an HD-28, but hey, who's keeping track). The Authentic series also features a chunkier, more vintage-spec neck contour, as well as a drop-in saddle for a more classic feel, and cosmetic additions include herringbone purfling and a classic 1937 squares and diamonds inlay pattern.

This instrument arrived in our store in very good condition, with about a typical to below-typical amount of playing wear on all planes of the instrument. The most notable wear is a crack through the back, about eight inches in length, which has been glued and cleated and should not re-open provided proper humidification. Both top and back binding have also been re-glued, although a seam between the binding and shrunken wood is still obvious upon feeling the guitar. It's recently seen a full professional set up and sounds great in all positions, with action set to medium bluegrass height. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
