Description
Now unfortunately discontinued, Martin's Vintage Series bolstered some of their most popular models with vintage specs for a great combination of modern craftsmanship with old-school charm, and this wonderful 000-28VS from 2002 is exemplary of all the things we loved about those instruments. Calling to mind some great six-strings of yesteryear, this sprightly little twelve-fret has a powerful, rich sound with applications in all types of music but with a definite slant towards fingerpicking, sporting a flat fingerboard and pronounced V-contour to the neck. Just like the stock 000-28, its Vintage Series counterpart features a Sitka spruce top with an Indian rosewood back and sides, for strong fundamentals and clear, bell-like overtones. And we also love the minimal look - no pickguard, with a slotted headstock for some retro class.
This guitar features a below typical amount of wear for an instrument of its age, with fairly minor pick marks on the top, and very few dents or divots on the back, sides, and neck. The most significant wear is some scraping and finish delamination on the back of the headstock, about an inch in length. There is one crack, extending along the top's center seam from the bridge down to the bottom of the lower bout. This crack has already been glued and cleated and should not reopen, provided the guitar is humidified properly by its next owner. It's recently been set up with a full professional fret dress, and plays well in all positions with medium action perfect for fingerstyle. We consider it to be in very good condition. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
