Description

For decades, Guild's D-50 has long been a favorite alternative to the D-28 for players that love the sound of spruce and rosewood - and this one, dating from near the start of the company's brief but highly regarded run in Corona, CA, has among the best tone you'll ever hear from these outstanding dreadnaughts. More heavily built than many other American-made options in the same price range, the D-50's sound is layered from the bass up, with a punchy, fat fundamental that works incredibly well as a rhythm acoustic onstage. Appointments are relatively minimal, but trademark Guild touches like the huge ivoroid headstock inlays and the classic jumbo tortoise-patterned pickguard have remained iconic mainstays of the brand's design for decades, and add a perfect bit of flair to this otherwise visually modest instrument.

This guitar arrived in our store in very good condition relative to its age, with little in the way of playing wear. There are a few minor scuffs on the back, and some mild evidence of finish shrinkage, especially around the bridge, but almost no wear on the instrument's top to speak of. The natural color of the spruce has broken in to a tan more quickly than one might expect - the top's color might suggest a guitar a decade or two older. The pickup, which is almost certainly a Fishman Acoustic Matrix Natural II, is original, and in good working order. Included in the price is a non-original Road Runner hard-shell case, which fits the instrument very well.
