Description
James Goodall's work simply doesn't pop up for sale all that often, so we could hardly believe our good fortune when this 1999 RCJC made its way through our door. The cutaway jumbo concert has proven to be one of Mr Goodall's most popular designs, and it's not hard to see why - the ergonomic contours split the difference with the instrument's deep body and wide lower bout for a big guitar with resonant lows that still manages to play and feel like a more compact model. A brilliant and open Sitka spruce top combines with a mahogany neck and an Indian rosewood back and sides for a classic array of tonewoods that take the familiar as a departure point in pursuit of a new, modern sound. Goodall adorned this one with hardwood inlays, including figured koa binding from his native state of Hawaii, and extensive abalone inlay work on the rosette, headstock, and fingerboard. This is a downright mesmerizing instrument for new acoustic music and we can't wait to match it with its next owner.
This guitar arrived in our store in excellent condition, especially when taking into account that it's fast approaching 30 years of age. All hardware is original, and diligent care and humidification have ensured that there's no structural damage to the RCJC whatsoever - in fact, there's no clear evidence of repair anywhere on this instrument. The pickup, which is an active undersaddle system from an unknown manufacturer, is an aftermarket addition, and it can't be definitively determined whether the clear tap-plate on the top is original or not. The set up is excellent, with low, playable action in all areas of the neck and no fret buzz whatsoever. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
*Please note, per our return policy, all sales on used and consignment instruments are final.*
