Description
While we primarily specialize in acoustic instruments here at the Denver Folklore Center, we occasionally see the odd semi-hollow electric that's simply too cool for us to pass up. The latest of these is this lovely Epiphone Sheraton AS from 1982, built at Gibson's Matsumoku factory in Japan, where some of Gibson's finest foreign-built guitars were manufactured. Despite the large body and bulk typical of a semi-hollow, the Sheraton has a very slim profile that ensures it's still comfortable to gig and practice with. The guitar sports two full-size Gibson gold-plated humbuckers, rather than the minis that the original Sheratons were adorned with. These pickups lend the guitar particular smoothness and some gentle compression, making it ideal for jazz playing, although the range of tones that can be dialed in make it versatile enough for rock and blues, as well. Lovely mother of pearl inlays, gold hardware, a dark, semi-opaque gloss finish, and a striking off-white binding complete the package and make it a delight to behold as well as play. Best of all, the guitar is in stunning condition for one approaching 40 years of age, with a perfect set up. This Sheraton comes with an aftermarket Gator hard shell case.
