Description
Twelve-fret fans rejoice: this Collings 003 comes mighty close to the platonic ideal of what a small-bodied guitar ought to play and sound like. Straddling the divide between a mid-sized, jack-of-all-trades flat top and an ultra-compact parlor guitar, the 003 sports a narrower upper bout and a wider and flatter neck for a playing experience that seems to pay homage to guitars of yesteryear while not compromising on modern quality or craftsmanship. Collings utilize a Sitka spruce top, a Honduran mahogany neck, and an Indian rosewood back and sides for a warm, bell-like tone that retains rich lows despite its small size. It's easy on the eyes, too - abalone inlays at the rosette, a double bound body and a bound fingerboard, gold Waverly tuners, and a chevron back stripe for a classic look to pair with its classic sound and playability. This is yet another stunner from our friends down in Austin, and sets a high water mark for all other manufacturers to aspire to. Included in the price is a hard-shell case, manufactured for Collings by TKL.
