Description
While Bourgeois are perhaps best known for their bluegrass cannons, the Lewiston-based manufacturer does an excellent job with small-to-medium size guitars as well, like this wonderful little 000 from their Hogtop line. As the name implies, Dana and company have opted for all mahogany construction on this instrument, for a clear and punchy sound with a lot of midrange that balances out the naturally bright sound of a 000. Appointments are minimal and modest, with delicately grained ivoroid used on the trim, rosette, and fingerboard inlay, allowing the natural beauty of the wood to shine through and not be overpowered by flashy cosmetics. Suffice to say, it plays great, too, and features low, comfortable action up and down the neck and a perfect set up that responds well to alternate tunings and capos. Included in the price is a Bourgeois hard-shell case, manufactured for the company by TKL.
