Description

Thomas Humphrey was one of the greatest luminaries in classical lutherie of our time, best known for his Millennium model, introduced in 1985. In 1997, he teamed up with Martin Guitars to design a high-end classical guitar that could be built at Martin's Nazareth factory, and would come in at a more amenable price point to prospective customers. The C-1R is one of the products of that collaboration, a wonderful, full-bodied, rich, and loud nylon string guitar designed for classical playing. In many regards, the C-1R is modeled directly on the Millennium, with many of its trademark features - a slight tapering in body depth from the upper bout to the lower, a raised fretboard, lattice soundboard bracing, and a 17" radius to the fretboard. The top features a very light gloss finish, and the back and sides are matte finished to allow the rosewood to speak properly.

These instruments are becoming difficult to find, and the cedar-topped models can be especially difficult to find, as opposed to the more common Englemann spruce. There are very few signs of significant play wear, and we consider the instrument to be in very good condition. Included in the price is the original hard shell case.
