Description

Part of Collings' partnership with jazz wunderkind Julian Lage, the OM1AJL is the OM1JL with the added volume and top-end clarity provided by Adirondack spruce. All of the Julian Lage signature models from Collings are based on Lage's particular preferences and the dimensions of his 1949 000-18 so as to provide the closest possible analog to the sound and feel of a vintage instrument that has seen decades of playing. What this means is scalloped, forward-shifted X-bracing, the lack of a tongue brace, a slightly asymmetrical neck profile, and a 25.5" scale length, an eighth of an inch longer than your typical OM. Additionally, the guitar features a very thin lacquer finish, making it stand aesthetically apart from the rest of Collings' acoustic guitars, and also adding a hair more resonance and sustain to the instrument.

But the additional appointment of Adirondack spruce to the top of the guitar pushes the whole affair up another notch, affording the guitar more carrying power, a wonderful brightness at high volumes, and an exceptionally clear voice. It also lends the instrument added versatility, as the volume of Adirondack makes the OM1AJL that much more suited for flatpicking and provide the guitar with a greater range of tonal colors depending on the performer's playing style. This instrument comes strung with light gauge nickel-wound strings and comes with a very sturdy Collings hard shell case.
