Martin 0-28 (1922)

Description

We see a fair share of vintage guitars make their way through the Denver Folklore Center - including the very rare and unique - but nonetheless, this 1922 Martin 0-28 stands apart from the pack as one of the most exceptional guitars we've ever had the pleasure of representing. Built during Martin's hallowed interwar period, this small-bodied 12-fret runs just shy of a parlor but still sports an impressively open, rich, and loud tone despite its diminutive size. A great guitar is always more than the sum of its parts, but the 0-28's extraordinary tone is in no small part thanks to the use of premium tonewoods, including an Adirondack spruce top and a Brazilian rosewood back and sides. It also can't be overstated how impressively this guitar has opened up over the last hundred years, and its played-in sound simply can't be found in a new instrument. We cannot wait to show it to you.

Having been a player's guitar for over a hundred years means that this instrument has seen a decent amount of repairs, including a bridge reglue and several repaired cracks on the top and sides. There is some bellying and some significant finish wear on the top, including some discoloration on the bass side of the lower bout. The bracing was hand-scalloped as an after-market alteration at an indeterminate point in the past. The guitar's nut is non-original, but all other parts appear to be original, even down to the saddle and bridge pins. It has just seen a professional set up including a full fret dress, level, and crown, and plays well in all positions. There is some minor buzzing on the high E string when driven, but in general, the guitar plays very well in all positions. We consider it to be in very good condition. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
