Description

Most of the dreadnaughts we sell here at the Denver Folklore Center are aimed at bluegrass pickers - but the versatility and popularity of the dreadnaught shape makes it a great fit for lots of other players as well. This 2009 Collings CJ takes after classic American slope-shoulder dreadnaughts of years past, and really shines in singer-songwriter, country, and acoustic rock settings where the natural warmth and responsive midrange of the tonewoods can come through. As upgrades to the base CJ model, this guitar's first owner opted for a mahogany top and a short scale length, making this guitar uniquely exemplary of the Austin-based manufacturer's best work. The all-mahogany construction contrasts nicely with the cream binding and ivoroid purfling, lending it an understated visual grace, as well.

This guitar arrived in our store in very good condition, but does show some playing wear that belies its age. The lack of a pickguard means that some pick scuffing is visible on the top of the instrument, as well as some general wear on the back, sides, neck, and headstock - all well within the range of normalcy. The CJ's current owner installed a pickup which has since been removed, meaning that the endpin is non-original. It's just been set up for medium gauge strings and has received a full professional fret dress, crown, and level, and its action supports a wide range of styles and playing techniques. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
