When word first broke about the upcoming collaboration between Bourgeois Guitars and Eastman Strings, all of us here at the Denver Folklore Center could hardly wait to see what the finished product would look, play, and sound like. The fruit of their collaboration is the Touchstone Series, craft-shop level guitars that sell at prices designed to compete with the major American manufacturers, and this Touchstone OM Vintage has lived up to even our highest expectations for these instruments. Combining an old-growth Alaskan Sitka spruce top hand-voiced by Dana Bourgeois and his team of luthiers with a back and sides built from Indian rosewood, the OM Vintage/TS has all the trimmings of a boutique instrument and is hand-finished by Eastman's most talented and tenured luthiers, allowing it to punch well above its weight class. Scalloped Adirondack bracing helps to give this guitar a powerful, sustaining sound with more low end than one expects from an OM - a tone that is unmistakably Bourgeois. Beautiful appointments including both mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays, herringbone purfling, and a perfect high-gloss finish to complete the package visually. Included in the price is a Bourgeois hard-shell case manufactured for the company by TKL.
