Description
While Vega's Old Tyme Wonder has gradually become one of the company's most popular open-backs, it wasn't always the case - and this rare model prototype, the very first and only of its kind, offers a fun glimpse into the history of the model and what Vega were trying to achieve with it when it was first introduced in 2022. Indeed, banjo aficionados will note right from the jump that while it may say Old Tyme Wonder on the decal inside the pot, this one looks significantly more like Vega's Vintage Star model, which has been in production for a few years longer. Cosmetic upgrades closely mirror the older edition, including the hardwood star inlay on the headstock and the figured ebony fingerboard. Nonetheless, this one still sports the Wonder-style rolled brass tone ring for the brighter and punchier sound characteristic of the model. Other cosmetic appointments are entirely unique, like the bronze powder-finished armrest and TrueTone tailpiece, or the white tuning buttons. It's a one-of-a-kind instrument for the player who needs their axe to have a story all its own.
This instrument arrived in our store in excellent cosmetic condition. Interested parties should note that the neck was replaced by Deering at their factory sometime in the last three years, and is therefore not original. The spikes may or may not have been aftermarket alterations, but do appear to be the same size and shape as ones manufactured by Deering. Playability is excellent, and cosmetic wear is limited to a very minor dent on one of the brackets. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case, as well as an authenticating letter from Deering regarding the instrument's unique provenance and pedigree.
*Please note, per our return policy, all sales on used and consignment instruments are final.*
