Rickard Dobson 11" (c. 2015)

Description

Over the last few years, Bill Rickard has quietly become one of the most-respected builders in the world of the open-back banjo, with a wide array of models that seem to offer everything the clawhammer player looks for out of a new instrument. That's just what you'll find in this Dobson, from about 2015 - a solid, workingman's banjo that lacks the frills and dazzling inlays of some of its higher-priced contemporaries, but boasts impeccable craftsmanship and a terrific sound. Featuring an all maple construction with an 11" pot, this instrument has a bright, carrying voice, but is still full of richness and overtones, making it a prime tool for solo melodic clawhammer play. As the name implies, this Rickard is equipped with a Dobson-style brass tone ring for extra punch, sustain, and warmth, and accommodates the player's hands with a full frailing scoop and a thick, well-contoured neck.

As Rickards are not serialized, this instrument is difficult to date, but we believe it was built sometime in 2015. It comes to us in excellent condition with no real playing wear and next to no scuffing on the neck or headstock. Included in the price is the Superior hard-shell case included with the banjo at the time of its initial purchase.
