Description

Pisgah Banjo Company may be just about the most reliable open-back manufacturer in the country, but their custom shop models somehow up the ante even more - this 2021 12" Custom comfortably ranks among the very best instruments we've ever seen from the company. Closest perhaps to the company's 12" Appalachian, this gorgeous instrument features all flamed maple construction for a punchy and powerful tone, but utilizes a walnut tone rim to add a warmth and richness sometimes missing from maple open-backs. Aesthetically, the maple is treated with a dark stain which offsets against the persimmon fretboard and headstock overlay, but the real attention-grabber is the aged brass fretboard scoop overlay, unlike any we've seen on a Pisgah before. It's an exceptional banjo and as a truly one-of-a-kind instrument, we'll be sad to see it go.

Overall condition is excellent, with very little in the way of playing wear to separate it from a brand new banjo. The Fiberskyn head is original, and is stamped with the PBCO logo. Other options not generally seen on stock Pisgahs, including the no-knot tailpiece and the aged brass rail armrest, are also original and were added as custom upgrades. The set up is excellent and at an optimal height for solo melodic clawhammer. Included in the price is the original TKL hard-shell case, an upgrade over the soft-shell case generally included with Pisgah's production banjos.
