Description

Gold Tone's OB-250 is already an impressive amount of banjo for the money, meaning this heavily discounted one from 2002 will be a real steal for whoever decides to take it off our hands. As implied by the name, the OB-250 aims to replicate one of the most popular resonator banjos in American history, and comes remarkably close, right down to the 20-hole Mastertone tone ring under the hood. While sporting the playability and comfort of a modern instrument, this splendid little five-string has a classic tone that seems to step right out of bluegrass history, with lots of sustain and volume, as well as a rich, complex timbre thanks in no small part to its all-mahogany construction.

Very minor playing wear distinguishes this instrument from a brand new one - only some minor scuffing on the back of the resonator, which is not immediately visible unless examined closely under oblique lighting. The owner had a fifth-string capo installed on the neck, but no other significant alterations have been made. The action is low and perfect for Scruggs-style play. We consider it to be in excellent condition. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
