Fare Thee Well Fretless Tackhead Banjo
Description
The real test of any mountain banjo builder is how their fretless five-string plays - and Denver's very own Fare Thee Well Banjos passes that test in spades. Jason Cox's Fretless Tackhead is one of the warmest-sounding and most authentic fretless open-backs you're liable to find on this side of the Mississippi, with a big, resonant tone. The Fretless Tackhead features a long scale length of over 27 inches and an extra large 12.75 inch head, and tends to play best as an E scale banjo, like the longnecks popular during the 50s and 60s folk revival. Its big sound is bolstered by loud cuts of spalted maple on the pot and the neck, in combination with an authentic goatskin head. Jason used burled walnut for the fingerboard and headstock and an ebony nut and tension tuners to add a little visual pop to the instrument, too. Included in the price is a Superior gig bag.
