While Deering are probably best known for their resonator banjos, they also make stellar high-end open-backs as part of their Vega line. The Vega Senator is one of the warmest-sounding and richest Vegas you'll find, with a tone perfect for old-time and Appalachian folk. This one, from 2016, has played in nicely, while still retaining a bit of the tightness and clarity of a brand new instrument, and would make for a great addition to the arsenal of any clawhammer picker. All-maple construction gives the Senator its trademark twang, while the spun brass tone ring works wonders on the sound, adding richness and impressive sustain that help this banjo stand apart from the pack. Aesthetics are vintage-inspired, with a dark stain on the pot and neck, and some lovely star inlays on the fretboard and headstock.
Best of all, this banjo looks to have been barely played, and little distinguishes it from a new instrument. There are no scuffs, scratches or dents anywhere on the banjo, and no parts have been replaced. The set up is flawless and very amenable to all styles. We consider this instrument to be on the upper end of excellent condition. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
