Description

The Gold Tone OB-3 is a replica of the classic Gibson RB-3, one of the most storied resonator banjos in bluegrass history, played by J.D. Crowe and Sonny Osborne, among others. While the RB-3 has long been out of production, Gold Tone's head designers examined every detail on vintage examples and have managed to bring the model back to life. Featuring a no-hole Mastertone tone ring, a mahogany neck paired with a lovely three-ply Canadian maple pot, and slanted resonator walls for a tight and clear sustain, the OB-3 has arguably the most impressive, authentically vintage sound of any of Gold Tone's resonator banjos. Cosmetics are also replicated, with snowflake inlays, a full gloss finish, planetary tuners, and of course, the Mastertone inlay at the 22nd fret. If you're a bluegrass banjo player searching for the old-school sound and feel, it'd be hard to do much better than the OB-3. Included in the price is a Gold Tone hard-shell case.
