Description

If you're looking to add some classic newgrass punch to your sound, look no further than this spectacular 1970 Gibson RB-250. With a played-in, warm timbre that calls to mind the sounds of great '70s pickers, this extraordinary banjo shows why Gibson were the first name in five-strings for decades. The mahogany neck, pot, and resonator pair with the company's patented Mastertone tone ring for a sound that's been emulated by countless other manufacturers since, but can be hard to find short of the real thing. Cosmetic touches err towards the more minimal side, but evoke the classic history of the resonator banjo and add an indisputable class to this wonderful instrument.

This banjo was adjacent to a flood, and required a full disassembly and cleaning to remove any oxidization. Despite this, the truss rod and coordinator rod are in full working condition. The tension screw on the tailpiece was removed prior to our acquiring this instrument, but does not have an effect on play. All its parts are original. There are multiple cracks in the neck heel and at the base of the neck, all measuring around two inches in length, but all these have been repaired and appear to be stable. In addition to the cleaning and crack repairs, it has also recently seen a full professional set-up and plays great in all positions, with very low action well-suited for three-finger. Over its lifetime, the gloss finish has broken in to more of a matte, and there is about a typical amount of finish checking on the resonator, neck, and headstock. We consider it to be in good condition. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
