Description

Let's get something out of the way very quickly: you would be hard-pressed to find a better modern resonator banjo than this Ome Celtic Star, built custom for the company's 50th anniversary in 2012. In all regards - sound, visual appointments, playability, and anything else you might care to mention - this stunning banjo is the complete package. With all-curly maple construction and a Megatone tone ring, the sound has all the twang, sparkle and clarity that all bluegrass banjo players yearn for out of a fine instrument. But the specifications sheet simply can't tell the whole story where this 50th Anniversary model is concerned, as the cosmetics are what truly make it one-of-a-kind. Beautiful mother-of-pearl and abalone inlay work form Celtic stars, knots, and flowers on the fretboard and headstock, and unbelievably intricate engraving on the gold-plated hardware is guaranteed to set this banjo apart from nearly any other. The resonator, heel, and back of the headstock all feature some of the most impressive wood inlay work we've seen, with multi-colored bands of maple forming helixes around the perimeter of the resonator, and a Celtic knot on the back, as well as the words "50 Years". This banjo is simply the apex of what we've carried lately, and one of the finest instruments Chuck Ogsbury and Ome Banjo Company ever made.

What's more, this Celtic Star is in excellent condition, belying very careful playing and proper care by its owner. Fretwear is very minimal, and there are no defects, chips or marks anywhere on the banjo to indicate that it's in anything less than ideal condition. Action is low and very amenable to melodic three-finger playing, and the set-up is good in all positions on the neck. We are beside ourselves about this wonderful banjo made right here in Colorado. Included in the price is the original hard-shell case.
