Here is a classic from Gibson. The original trapeze tailpiece has been replaced by a stop tailpiece. The original is intact and in the accessories pocket. The finish on the guitar is a bit darker where the original tailpiece was. This is Gibson's original model that is wired for stereo. It appears, from some light marks in the finish, that someone had a stick-on pickup just in front of the bridge. Overall, the guitar is in great shape with some light to normal playing wear.

This guitar has some normal playing wear and some dings and scratches, but, come on, it's almost 40 years old! It has some nice finish checking which is quite typical for Gibsons of this age. Big sound. That's the thing that comes to most people's minds (& ears) when they strum this classic Gibson. Sure, this baby's been played hard and looks a little rough - but that's why it sounds so great! One very old repaired crack in the top (3 inches). Newer replaced tuners.

This Gibson is a real player, not so much a looker. It has had a neck set and a new bridge, so it plays great. Over the years it has had numerous cracks repaired in the top, but they all appear quite stable.

The fingerboard width at the bone nut is 1-9/16ths inches, so it is ideal for someone with smaller hands or who just likes a narrower neck.

What a cool guitar! All original and in great shape. Back in the 1970s, the famous Johnny Smith offered to trade anything in his shop for this guitar. There is a little deterioration of the pickguard but we've seen way worse. The g string tuner button is bent but works fine. Overall, this beauty has a few small nicks and scratches but really is in fantastic condition. A nifty smaller bodied archtop with a flat back. It has some repaired cracks on the back and the back has also been refinished but that doesn't matter to us.... the top is where it's at. It has a beautiful sunburst finish and no cracks. The neck has a pronounced V profile and feels great. There are a few marks left over from the bad old capo days. This guitar makes us all want to change our names to Hank and join a western swing band.

A nice smaller bodied guitar from the folks back in Kalamazoo. It has a great looking sunburst finish and no cracks. The tuners have been replaced with Grovers but the originals are in the case. Somewhere along the line the bridge has been replaced, no doubt because it would have had a nasty plastic one originally. The action is great and it has a punchy tone. It has a John Pearse wooden armrest that has been added, but we're certain that it could be easily removed by the new owner. That could be you!

Martin 0-15

c. 1959

A great little Martin that just turned 50 last year. The finish is beautifully checked, with just a few scratches here and there. We have done a neck set so the guitar plays great. There are two small cracks(less than an inch) that have been repaired near the end pin. Otherwise, it is crack-free. Also, we have added a bridgeplate veneer as the top was getting a bit thin by the bridge pins. All in all, a wonderful small-bodied guitar.

Martin 000-18
c.1926

Here is a very interesting instrument. It has a 12-fret neck with a slotted headstock but has Martin's long scale length. Very rare. The width at the nut is 1-13/16ths inches. The guitar has been refinished. Somewhere along the line, we think someone put some rhinestones in the headstock (can you say 1960s?), but they were removed before it was refinished. There have been numerous cracks repaired well, and there are a few patches also very professionally repaired. The tuners have been replaced. This guitar is incredibly light, as any 80-year-old Martin should be, and the sound jumps out of it. Somebody at sometime spilled something inside the soundhole. We think it was glue and glitter ... possibly another relic of the sixties? Most of it has been cleaned up and we don't think it affects the guitar at all.

A neat smaller body guitar built by the Gibson folks in Kalamazoo. This is the Epiphone version of Gibson's LG-2. It is in great playing condition, good action, etc. It has had one crack near the pickguard repaired. Overall the finish has a nice crazing look, very typical of older Gibsons and Epiphones.

c. 1952-1953
Exc.
Here it is big guitar fans, a real beauty from the early fifties. This guitar is aged to perfection with some beautiful crazing in the finish, no cracks in the gorgeous spruce and maple. The binding has shrunk in spots and has cracked in a couple places but this is easily fixed by any good repair person. The pickup was chosen and installed in the mid 80's by Johnny Smith. He told the owner that the new pickups on the market were no good and he would sell him one of his vintage pickups! The neck is good and straight and the action is low. ser. # 66051

Wow, did Richard Hoover find some beautiful wood to build this guitar! Highly flamed koa back and sides, with very tight-grained spruce on top. It has a lovely inlay on the headstock and a "snowflakes and diamonds" pattern on the fingerboard. The top has had two repaired cracks, and there is some normal playing wear - but all in all, this is a cool guitar. It has a big voice with a very distinctive bass.

Santa Cruz Custom "H" Guitar

c. 2009
Exc.
This is a beautiful looking and sounding custom guitar from Santa Cruz Guitar Company. It is their 14-fret model with: Indian Rosewood back and sides, Sitka Spruce top, a torch inlay on a Brazilian Rosewood overlay on the headstock, and gold Waverly tuners. An B-Band pickup and pre-amp were installed by the Santa Cruz folks. It has very minor play wear. There are some light finish flaws in the top along the edges of the lower bout that are barely visible. We think that the cause may have been that the guitar was put in its case and shipped before the finish was completely cured, leading to the finish flaws. It is a very minor issue on an otherwise gorgeous custom guitar.

This guitar was originally purchased and owned by Tom Paxton. Since this was his "working" guitar, it has the full and rich sound you would expect - and there is play wear. We sure don't see these very often. This one came into our store needing some repairs, but it was well worth the effort. The original tuners have been replaced with tuners of the same period.
